Talking Movies French Cinema Classics: 'Cyrano de Bergerac'
Gerard Depardieu has become a controversial name in France in recent months due to historic sexual assault charges he's facing - nevertheless, he's been one of France's most prolific and rewarded on-screen actors.
In 1990 he starred in Jean-Paul Rappaneu's Cyrano de Bergerac, an epic adaptation of the Edmond Rostand play about a swasbuckling soldier poet.
As author, journalist and critic Agn猫s C. Poirier tells Talking Movies, the film remains one of the most expensive and lavish productions in the history of French cinema.
