Every family has stories about past relatives. Sometimes things just don't add up. Emily Wood's is about a murder.

In 1935, her great-aunt Eva was killed on the night of her daughter's 13th birthday. The inquest said the boyfriend did it and then killed himself. The family tried to move on. They never quite did. There were rules about knives, whispered details, and a name that lived on in family folklore: McGinty.

Seventeen years later, Agatha Christie wrote a novel called Mrs McGinty's Dead. Now Emily wants to know: is it just a coincidence that a real murdered woman and a fictional one share the same unusual name?

This is where her investigation begins: at a kitchen table in Devon, with a mum, a family tree, and a photograph of a ballet dancer who never got to grow old.
