Reports and analysis of the day's political, economic and sports news from across Africa.
Somalia鈥檚 lower house of parliament has voted to extend President Farmajo鈥檚 term for another two years, despite his mandate expiring in February. There has been political turmoil in the country, with no agreement reached over the holding of elections which should have taken place last December. Mogadishu鈥檚 police chief Saadaq Omar Hassan has also been sacked, after he unsuccessfully tried to have parliament suspended.
Plus, the presidents of Tanzania and Uganda have signed an agreement to begin construction of the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline.
And Africa鈥檚 Muslims again prepare to observe Ramadan in the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic.
