Tanzania and Uganda agree huge pipeline deal

Reports and analysis of the day's political, economic and sports news from across Africa.

The presidents of Tanzania and Uganda have signed an agreement to begin construction of the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline. The pipeline will facilitate the transfer of Ugandan oil to ports in Tanzania. It will be one of the world鈥檚 longest electrically heated pipelines, but the project has received criticism from environmental campaigners.

Plus, Somalia鈥檚 lower house of parliament has voted to extend President Farmajo鈥檚 term for another two years, despite his mandate expiring in February.

And more than 30 Christians detained because of their faith in Eritrea have been released.
