South Africa holds naval drills with Russia
South Africa is conducting joint naval exercises with the Russian and Chinese militaries, following Sergei Lavrov鈥檚 visit to the country last month.
South Africa is conducting joint naval exercises with the Russian and Chinese militaries, following Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov鈥檚 visit to the country last month. The ten-day programme of naval drills will take place off South Africa鈥檚 coast in the Indian Ocean, at a time when NATO countries are pressuring African governments to take a hard line against Russia following the Ukraine invasion.
Plus, police have been deployed to parts of Nigeria鈥檚 commercial capital Lagos, as unrest continues with people struggling to get hold of new Naira banknotes. Gunfire has been heard on Friday, with some roads blocked with burning tyres.
And a report by the NGO Amnesty International accuses the M23 rebel group of carrying out mass rape in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
