Migrant boat adrift at sea, given fuel but not rescued
A vessel carrying 400 people, that departed from Libya, had issued a distress call after going adrift in international waters.
An old fishing boat with around 400 migrants on board had been drifting in the Mediterranean Sea between Greece and Malta for two days after running out of fuel, and was taking in water. We hear from a member of the Alarm Phone service that picked up their distress signal, who says a merchant ship was able to supply fuel but was ordered by Maltese authorities not to rescue the stricken vessel.
Huge protests have been taking place in Ethiopia's Amhara region against government plans to dissolve the regional special force.
