There's a competitive element to these celebrations, which have their own league system, where teams can be relegated and promoted. Think of it like a football league, but for dancing. Their HQ is located on a road known colloquially as the city of samba, a place where multiple samba schools have their quadras (big warehouses where they practise and build the floats), located just a stones throw from the Anhembi Sambadrome where the schools perform during carnival.
