2.00pm British Symphonies: Humphrey Searle
Composer Humphrey Searle died 25 years ago this May and the jazz-loving Englishman's teachers included Vaughan Williams's friend RO Morris and Schoenberg's pupil Anton Webern.
Searle's five symphonies feature each day this week, plus pieces by his teachers and the music he loved, particularly Liszt whom he championed all his life.
This week also sees the launch of the 2007 Proms and a conference devoted to the Proms' role in British musical life, so every programme features works premiered at the Proms.
