Between The Ears

By the Rivers of Babylon

SaturdayÌý11ÌýDecemberÌý2004Ìý22:30-23:00Ìý(Radio 3)

The story of the unlikely collaboration between the already famous Lord Byron, and Isaac Nathan, a young, unknown Jewish musician who persuaded His Lordship to write lyrics to some ostensibly ancient songs of David. The venture was a publishing success, and a critical disaster. Byron's poems eventually inspired several composers much greater than Nathan. By Judith Chernaik.
