In the first, James Macmillan conducts music selected by the Society for the Promotion of New Music and Peter Maxwell Davies conducts a selection of his own pieces, all inspired by his childhood memories of the Salford area of Manchester, including Spinning Jenny, a vast, industrial scherzo.
