I can hear you thinking... the latest reality TV show鈥 a special enhanced edition of Coronation Street鈥 the news? But you鈥檇 be wrong on all counts --- its Rome鈥 the new sixty three million pound television series about the collapse of the Republic which has been co-produced by the 麻豆社 and the American broadcaster, HBO. In Night Waves this evening Isabel Hilton discusses the first episode of this 12 part blockbuster with the historians, Mary Beard and Tom Holland and explores our abiding fascination with swords and sandals. Isabel will also be taking the measure of the new book by Cormac McCarthy鈥. 鈥淣o Country for Old Men鈥 -- his first since he completed the monumental 鈥淏order Trilogy鈥 and there will be a discussion of the achievement of the photographer and film maker, William Eggleston. That鈥檚 all in Night Waves with Isabel Hilton here on 麻豆社 Radio 3 at nine thirty this evening.
