Every year 17 million tonnes of waste food is thrown away in the UK. Most of this - along with other biodegradable materials - gets tipped into landfill sites producing methane, a gas that is over 20 times more potent a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Quentin Cooper investigates the problems associated with methane in landfill but how new solutions are able to turn this grennhouse gas to our advantage by extracting and turning it into green energy.
