Clifford Longley
Clifford Longley is an author, broadcaster and journalist who has specialised since 1972 in the coverage and analysis of British and international religious affairs. For 20 years he wrote a weekly column in religion, morality and culture in The Times and from 1992 to September 2000 in The Daily Telegraph. He currently has a fortnightly column in The Tablet, of which he is also Editorial Consultant. He is a regular panelist on Radio 4鈥檚 The Moral Maze and a regular contributor to Thought for the Day.
In 1996 he was consultant to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales for the production of The Common Good and the Catholic Church's Social Teaching and in 1998 for The Catholic Church and Human Rights; in 2005 he was the principal author of Prosperity with a Purpose, published by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. He serves on the steering committee of the True Wealth of Nations project of the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies at the University of Southern California.
In 1986 he was named "Specialist Writer of the Year" in the British Press Awards. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Three Faiths Forum and in 2006 was awarded the Gold Medal 鈥淧eace Through Dialogue鈥 of the International Council of Christians and Jews. He has also served on the Prince of Wales's Islamic Advisory Group. Publications include The Times Book of Clifford Longley (HarperCollins 1990), The Worlock Archive (Geoffrey Chapman 1999) and Chosen People (Hodder 2002). He is an Honorary Fellow of St Mary's College, Strawberry Hill, and a Justice of the Peace at Bromley Magistrates' Court, Kent.
