T Rex one inch rock is not only a short track but must have the shortest track name ever. A pleasure meeting Bryan when I drove him (almost )to the station after the World cross country. My photos of the event are at http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/davidhall1956/WorldCrossCountryCha mpionships200802

SHORT SONGS: I really like "Coney Island Girls" by The Fun Loving Criminals, which comes in at 1:30 (a good "screamy" number it is too), Ramones' tracks?...Well, you can't beat Blitzkreig Bop or Rockaway Beach for a short sharp shock. "I Can't Explain" by The Who is only 4 seconds over the 2 minute mark, The Mamas & Papas' "Glad To Be Unhappy" is 1:41 mins long, "The Needle and The Damage Done" by Neil Young with it's sudden ending is only 2 seconds over. The Undertones are good at short songs - "Here Comes Summer", Julie Ocean, True Confessions and Smarter Than U are all under 2 minutes. "When Will I Be Loved" by The Everly Brothers is 1:58 mins, "He's So Fine" by The Chiffons is 1:51 and "Stay" by Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs is 1:40 mins. Willie Nelson's "If You've Got The Money Honey (I've Got The Time)" comes in at 2 minutes. Johnny Cash - "I Got Stripes" and The Kinks - "Stop Your Sobbing" are just over 2 minutes long, Art Garfunkel's "That's All I've Got To Say" is 1:54 and Simon & Garfunkel's "Song For The Asking" is 1:50. I suppose there will be lots of requests for "White Riot" tonight.

TUESDAY: "I Can Help" - Billy Swan, "You're My Best Friend" - Don Williams. WEDNESDAY: Gram Parsons - "Hickory Wind", "Ever So Lonely" - MONSOON, "A Windmill In Old Amsterdam" may get people of a certain age singing along, I know familiarity can breed contempt but I really do like Bette Midler singing "Wind Beneath My Wings. THURSDAY: "Asylums in Jerusalem" - Scritti Politti, "Spellbound" - Siouxsie & The Banshees, "Life Begins at the Hop" - XTC, "Dance de la Vie" - Michael Doucet (from the band Beausoleil...saw it performed on TV in Aly Bain's Transatlantic Sessions and had to buy the CD)

Julie from Edinburgh

Another great show, and another trip in my "get-it-on" time-machine. I had exactly the same response to the "Five Guys Named Moe" song as Bryan, I couldn't remember it until it was playing and suddenly I knew every word. This prompted me to go raking through my tape collection for one of my "copied off the radio" mix tapes I was very fond of in my late teens. Quickly I dug up one which seemed to be from Easter 1991. I stuck it on and heard Bryan's voice introducing the song, telling us to go buy the album and that the band would be playing in King Tut's the following month! On the short songs theme, please play "Short Songs" by the Dead Kennedys!

Ali from Stirling

I've got Bryan in my loft to, but unfortunately nothing is labelled. If I find a tape then maybe Byan could use it and have a night off. JD

Tuesday Theme: "my friends Flesh + Blood" from the Roxy Music album "Flesh + Blood"

Cheers

Sunday sees the annual Bellahouston Roadrunners visit to the London Marathon. On Thursday can you please play a song for all the runners and supporters getting ready for that great event. I would like Going for Gold by Shed 7. Alternatives could be Run by New Order or for a slightly cheesier option The Final Countdown by Europe.

Russell Whittington from Glasgow

For Wednesday: Bryan Ferry "Windswept" from his "Boys And Girls" album. www.vivaroxymusic.com

John from Inverness

Just thought of another couple for the Friendship theme: "Travellin' On For Jesus" by Kate & Anna McGarrigle warns "don't take everybody to be your friend" and Gilbert Becaud's "A Little Love and Understanding", is a pleasant wee song with a warm sentiment that I remember my Dad being extremely fond of...so much so that he'd play it with stero arm over to the side so it would repeat umpteen times - reminds me of Sunday lunchtimes.

Julie from Edinburgh

You know John, I'm sure there are some great pubs in Inverness. Cinemas too (maybe even a Roxy!). Anyway, I'm aghast that you forgot about Roxy's great live version of Neil Young's Like A Hurricane (from the High Road EP or Heart Still Beating album)for Wednesday.

Adam Reid from Rio de Janeiro

Adam,no ROXY cinema here in Inverness, tho there is an area called the FERRY. ( I wonder where John lives.)

Davy from Inverness

You'll probably have seen him Davy. He's that bloke that walks down the High Street on a Friday night with the smart suit, well coiffed hair, whistling Jealous Guy.

Adam from Rio de Janeiro

Is that who it is, i thought he was going to a Slim Whitman convention.

Davy from Inverness

Speaking of Slim Whitman how about him singing North Wind to fit into tonights theme.

Davy from Inverness

First up, this would clearly be your chance to rectify the longstanding failure to play anything by HawkWIND other than Silver Machine: "Wind of Change" would make it doubly appropriate, though I'll appeal for "Psychedelic Warlords". Recognising you're not going to do that, though: Neil Young: "Like a Hurricane" (original electric version) or "Wayward Wind"; Bob Dylan: "Blowin' in the Wind", "Hurricane" or "Idiot Wind"; Frank Zappa: "Teenage Wind"; John Mayall's Bluesbreakers: "They Call it Stormy Monday"; Dr Feelgood: "She's a Wind Up" (aye, ok, but say it as it's spelt); PLEASE don't play The Scorpions: "Wind of Change"; Doris Day: "The Windy City"; The Isley Bros: "Summer Breeze"; Splodgenessabounds: "Michael Booth's Talking Bum" (wrong type of wind, maybe).

Harry from Gatehoose

Would 'Tunnel Vision' by Lenny Kravitz be allowed for Wednesday's wind theme? Failing that, 'Windy Town' by Chris Rea, or 'Silver Machine' by Hawkwind.

Charlie from Paisley

Missed the show last night - when's the playlist going to appear so I can see what songs I missed?

Julie from Edinburgh

Hi Brian, missed most of lastnights show, was taking the kids to the drive thru!! Would love to hear The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary or The Ramones(surprise, surprise!!)Blitzkreig Bop. We say we are going for a Hey Ho when we are going on a night out. So it's always a good way to start the evening. I would also love to hear The Sisters of Mercy - Floorshow or Temple of Love from the album Some Girls Wander By Mistake. I think you will be surprised they do have some excellent dance records and I have never heard them on the radio since the 80's. This is your chance to make an old Goth very happy!!
