The 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra performs music by Honneger, Coll and Prokofiev
Spanish passion, flying tackles and comedy at its juiciest: it鈥檚 all about the sensations, as composer-conductor Francisco Coll and pianist Elisabeth Brauss join the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra, in this free concert live in Croydon.
They call it 'Duende' - the untamed passion at the heart of flamenco. For the poet Federico Garc铆a Lorca, it was 鈥渢hat mysterious power that everyone feels but no philosopher can explain鈥, and it鈥檚 the driving spirit behind Coll鈥檚 extraordinary Ciudad sin sue帽o (鈥淭he city that never sleeps鈥), a piano concerto inspired by an impossible dream, played today by the superb Elisabeth Brauss with the composer himself conducting.
A composer always hears things differently, and Coll has made his fantasia the centrepiece of a whole concert inspired by fantasy at it most thrillingly physical. He opens with 贬辞苍别驳驳别谤鈥檚 uninhibited sonic scrum-down before diving into the psychedelic imagination of the young Prokofiev: a musical fairytale where princesses live inside giant oranges and laughter proves an alarmingly potent medicine. You鈥檒l already know the tunes: now hear them in 3D and full colour with the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra.
