Necktie Youth: a reflection on the new South Africa

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

The South African film Necktie Youth has picked up plaudits in festivals around the globe. It tells a powerful story of disaffected middle class youth in Johannesburg. The film was recently also shown in the UK, at the London Film Festival. Its director, 24-year-old Sibs Shongwe-La Mer, told Â鶹Éç Africa’s James Copnall that the film grew out of a painful experience in his own life a decade ago.
