Women have to “weigh up the risks and the benefits of the combined contraceptive pill, says Dr Sarah Jarvis. Speaking to 5 live’s Phil Williams, Dr Jarvis said that taking any kind of estrogen “does increase your levels of clotting and up to 30 out of 100 thousand people on “some kinds of the pill will get a pulmonary embolism - a clot on the leg which travels to and lodges in the lung. She said the condition will only affect around 25 to 30 out of a thousand women on “some kinds of the pill. Her comments come after a coroner has concluded 23-year-old Charlotte Foster died from the untreated side effects of the combined contraceptive pill. This clip is originally from Phil Williams Thursday 28 July 2016.
