Amazon patents flying warehouses for its drones

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Earlier this month Amazon made the first commercial delivery using a drone and now, the company seems to be planning to expand its use of the unmanned aircrafts. It’s emerged that the company has filed a patent application for enormous flying warehouses to hover over big cities and dispatch fleets of drones, speeding up delivery. But could it actually become a reality? Doctor Pippa Malmgren, co-founder of H-Robotics which manufactures commercial drones, told 5 live that the plans don’t look practical. “Having them ascend and descend through commercial airspace is a recipe for disaster." This clip is originally from 5 live Drive on 29th December 2016.
