The deputy Westminster leader of the SNP has said the UK government "cannot rip up the Barnett formula in order to secure 10 votes in parliament". The Barnett formula is a system which dictates the level of public spending in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Under it, extra funding - or cuts - from Westminster are allocated according to the population size of each nation and which powers are devolved to them. Kirsty Blackman told Martha Kearney if the UK government agreed to a £2bn investment in Northern Ireland in order to secure a deal with the DUP "we would expect to see a similar level of funding per head of population going to Scotland".
