Remembering Gambia's biggest sea tragedy

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

The death of more than 60 Gambians, including 11 women off the coast of Mauritania as they tried to make their way into Europe at the beginning of this month shocked many. Most are said to have come from the town of Barra north of the country. The boat wreck is the biggest sea tragedy in the country’s history in recent years. Our Reporter in The Gambia, Omar Wally, travelled to Barra town  and tells us more in this report. (Photo: Barra town entrance. Credit: Omar Wally)
