Covid-19: Tunisian factory chooses lockdown to produce medical masks

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Tunisia has an innovative response to the coronavirus outbreak, in a country which has over 200 cases. Across the continent, access to protective equipment for health workers is going to be a challenge over the next few months. Gloves and face masks are needed to prevent further infections. In a rural area to the south of Tunisia's capital, 110 women and 40 men, all employees of the ConsoMED factory, have isolated themselves for a month - not because they're suffering from the COVID-19 virus, but as what they call a patriotic gesture. They've decided to seclude themselves while they manufacture protective gear like masks to help their country's fight against coronavirus.
