Covid-19: Tunisian factory chooses lockdown to produce medical masks

Tunisia has an innovative response to the coronavirus outbreak, in a country which has over 200 cases. Across the continent, access to protective equipment for health workers is going to be a challenge over the next few months. Gloves and face masks are needed to prevent further infections.

In a rural area to the south of Tunisia's capital, 110 women and 40 men, all employees of the ConsoMED factory, have isolated themselves for a month - not because they're suffering from the COVID-19 virus, but as what they call a patriotic gesture. They've decided to seclude themselves while they manufacture protective gear like masks to help their country's fight against coronavirus.

The Â鶹Éç's Esau Williams speaks to the factory’s director, Hamza Alouini.
