A woman in the township of Mitchells Plain in Cape Town, South Africa has launched a taxi service to try and provide safe transport for women and girls. Joanie Fredericks herself a survivor of violence set up the Ladies Own Transport Services (Lots) Driving School three years ago, to teach women to drive. Because of her initiative, nearly a 100 women have managed to get their drivers’ licences. Now she’s branched out into a taxi service where women drive women.
