Today, Tanzania marks 60 years of political freedom . The 9th of December 1961 is the date that mainland Tanganyika gained independence. One of the notable national projects over the years has been the promotion of Kiswahili as a national language and along with it has come a flourishing literary scene both in terms of Kiswahili fiction and academic works. At the heart of that is an institution that has also been celebrating an anniversary this week.
