The Tanzanian publishers promoting Kiswahili culture
Today, Tanzania marks 60 years of political freedom . The 9th of December 1961 is the date that mainland Tanganyika gained independence. One of the notable national projects over the years has been the promotion of Kiswahili as a national language and along with it has come a flourishing literary scene both in terms of Kiswahili fiction and academic works. At the heart of that is an institution that has also been celebrating an anniversary this week. The publishing house Mkuki na Nyota has turned 40.Audrey Brown has been catching up with the father and son team founder Walter Bgoya, and creative director Mkuki Bgoya.
