MEET OUR REPORTER

Â鶹Éç Tees picked Laura to be our Blast young reporter for 2004. She will be producing reports across the summer.

Find out more about her here.

For 2004, I am going to roam the streets of Middlesbrough and beyond to bring you the latest upbeat stories, debates and issues that interest and affect you within the local area.

As a 19 year old gap year student, I will venture through nights of drunken gigs, fight my way through controversial matters, to find the answers to the questions that keep our minds ticking on those lonely, skint nights.

I come from Stockton, and although I feel there is plenty to do, it is just finding out about it which proves to be my problem.

At times I attend Kino at The Arc, try to get myself involved in photography exhibitions, and some people would say IÂ’m quite an obsessive fan with going to live gigs.

So rest assured, there will be plenty of reviews for you all to wade through!

In September I am off to Northumbria University to do Media Production.

On the Blast scheme, I would like to mingle with this subject. Interacting with young filmmakers and photographers in the area, to maybe create some sort of exhibition.

As I find it very difficult to express this form of art in Teesside.

However, currently, in my time of non-studying.

I am living the Student lifestyle, right down to only changing my socks twice a week (only joking).

I have a part time job, listen to hoards of music, ranging from experimental to indie, to rock, to punk.

You name it, I listen to it! Also I like to get involved with political issues, like branding, Greenpeace, all of which IÂ’m sure will creep into my work with Blast.

I am aiming to really make the most of this opportunity, and gather ideas and stories from hundreds of people, with differing backgrounds, ideas, and lifestyles in the local area, to try and get a taster of what is really hip and happening in Teesside.

What is Blast?

Blast aims to show young people how easy it is to get involved in the arts.

Many people have preconceived ideas about the arts, and not all of them sound all that exciting.

HOWEVER..... it's not only budding thespians and future Van Gogh's who would be interested in Blast.

It doesn't matter whether you're into ballet or breakdancing, classical music or DJing, cubism or graffiti, they are ALL forms of art!

Find out more about Blast here.
