What does "Recommendation" mean?

Updated: 5 December 2025

When you’re signed in to the Â鶹Éç, we’ll recommend things we think you’ll like. So as well as seeing what’s most popular, you can also discover other things you might otherwise miss.

How do you make recommendations?

We base them on how you’ve been using the Â鶹Éç. For instance, if you watch lots of nature programmes, we might recommend a new David Attenborough documentary.

We also recommend things that people with similar tastes are enjoying. And we return the favour by recommending the things you like back to those people.

Where do I find recommendations?

Recommendations are used across many Â鶹Éç products to improve the user experience. You'll find them on the  Â鶹Éç Homepage, , and Â鶹Éç Sounds.

In some cases, personalised recommendations are clearly labelled with section names such as "Recommended for you", "If you liked…", or "Music You'll Love". In other cases – such as the order and selection of rows on the iPlayer homepage—they are not explicitly flagged. Some recommendations are not personalised but still help you discover related content. For example, the "More Like This" section on iPlayer programme pages suggests similar shows.

We're expanding our recommendation capabilities to ensure we always serve the most relevant and engaging content to you, across all our offering.

How do I opt out of recommendations?

We keep any info about you secure, in line with our Privacy and Cookies Policy. You can read about what we do with your data here.

If you still don't want any recommendations, you can change the personalisation setting in your .
