The sunspot cycle is still at a low point. During these periods, audibility at higher frequencies is reduced and broadcasts move to lower frequencies where possible. However, due to the overcrowding of the lower bands there is significant risk of interference from other broadcasters and reduced audibility. In addition, lower frequencies are preferred for many transmissions over the winter period, which affects audibility in many places, particularly in Europe.
