Don't panic! Gaelic follows the English!
听
I'm Cathy from Kentucky, USA. I visited Scotland last fall and during our stay in the Highlands I was fascinated by the Gaelic language on the road signs. Also the large "F脿ilte" sign as we got off the ferry boat to Mull on our way to Iona, and especially at the Culloden Battlefield. I also love Celtic music and my favourite song in Gaelic is An Dealachadh by Runrig. My favourite Gaelic expression: Is math sin. (that's good) Partly because it's the root of "Smashing!" being used for something that's really good, and also because if you sound it out in English it asks if math is sin, and I don't like math. I think it's ironic. I'm hoping to learn enough Gaelic to carry on a simple conversation and then be able to go back to Scotland one of these days and use it. Thanks for your site, it's helped a lot!听

A wee description of the picture: This is me at Urquhart Castle overlooking Loch Ness.
Is mise Cathy agus 鈥榮 ann an Kentucky, USA a tha mi. Chaidh mi a dh'Alba, agus nuair a bha mi anns a' Gh脿idhealtachd, bha 霉idh mh貌r agam anns na sanasan-rathaid, an sanas m貌r 鈥淔脿ilte鈥 nuair a dh'fh脿g sinn am bat'-aiseig air Muile, nuair a bha sinn air ar slighe gu 脤. Tha mi gu math d猫idheil air ce貌l Ceilteach agus 鈥榮 e An Dealachadh le Runrig an t-貌ran G脿idhlig as fhe脿rr leam. An abairt as fhe脿rr leam: Is math sin, oir is seo am freumh son 鈥渟mashing鈥 a tha ciallachadh rud a tha s貌nraichte math. Tha mi an d貌chas gum bi mi ag ionnsachadh gu le貌r G脿idhlig airson a dhol air ais a dh'Alba son c貌mhradh s矛mplidh a ghabhail.
