Following our popular series of live-accompanied films, we focus on the films of Charlie Chaplin with scores by Timothy Brock and from Neil Brand (whose acclaimed score for the 1928 film Underground was co-commissioned by the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra. The surreal feature-length Shoulder Arms is described by Brand, as 鈥榦ne of the great World War One movies鈥� and established Chaplin鈥檚 reputation yet is now rarely seen. From the absurd charm of the tiny Kid Auto Races to the covertly hard-hitting Easy Street, with its images of urban poverty amidst the knockabout chases, and the justly famous The Immigrant, Chaplin offers composers an irresistible array of opportunities, as well as a disarmingly intimate window onto life a century ago and the concert includes arrangements of Chaplin鈥檚 own music for his films.
