Vietnam war: Pilot recalls final flight from Saigon
The pilot of the final evacuation flight out of Saigon has recalled his historic role on the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.
Colonel Gerald Berry took part in Operation Frequent Wind which transported more than 1,000 Americans and more than 5,000 Vietnamese out of the city.
It took over 18 hours, involving at least 75 helicopters and it is often called the largest helicopter evacuation on record.
Colonel Berry pointed out that US Ambassador Graham Martin was not on the final flight from the embassy in Saigon.
Instead, his helicopter returned to the city to rescue remaining US Marines.
He said: "We knew they were there. We landed on top of the roof, picked them up, and it was over at about 07:20, or 07:30 in the morning."
