A record shop owner has told 5 live he is 鈥渁stonished鈥� vinyl has made such a comeback in the last year.
Phil Barton, who owns the Sister Ray independent record shop in London, told 5 live鈥檚 Colletta Smith that the vinyl format 鈥渟hould have died out years ago鈥� but there was a 鈥渞emarkable鈥� three million LPs sold last year; a 25 year high.

Phil went on to say the resurgence had helped his business as 鈥渢en years ago I would have given you the keys to my shop back and said 鈥榯hank you very much, I鈥檝e had enough鈥� but now we鈥檙e back鈥�.

Sales of CDs are going in the opposite direction, with11% fewer being sold in 2016.

UK labels' association the BPI's end of year UK recorded music market report showed how sales performed across physical formats, downloads and streaming. Overall consumption of recorded music rose 1.5% last year, driven by a surge in audio streaming and the vinyl revival.
