Primary school allows pupils to wear slippers in class
A primary school in Derbyshire has allowed pupils to wear slippers in class after research had shown wearing no shoes can improve behaviour and grades.
Emma Tichener, head teacher at Findern Primary School, told 5 live: 鈥淲e trialled it for a day in one of our classes and even though our children are very well behaved they just seemed more calm so we decided to try it out with the whole of the school.鈥
Mrs Tichener decided to trial the idea after reading a study from Bournemouth University that found children who attend lessons without shoes work harder and behave better.
She added: 鈥淲e are getting lots of positive feedback saying that they [the children] feel more comfortable, feel more at home and that they really enjoy wearing slippers.鈥
鈥淲e hope that in time we can measure the progress and attainment that children reach and see if it makes a difference to their achievement.鈥
