'Ground-breaking' hydrogen train unveiled at SVR
In a UK-first, a team created the HydroShunter by repurposing an old diesel locomotive, on the tracks of the Severn Valley Railway.
Experts at the University of Birmingham and technology firm Vanguard Sustainable Transport Solutions teamed up with the Worcestershire charity to see if they could create a train powered by hydrogen. After years of hard graft, and support from volunteers and the community, they stripped out a redundant Class 08 shunter, and now have something special on their hands.
Tom Edwards reports.
