Urgent global calls for an Ethiopia ceasefire
Concern is mounting in diplomatic and humanitarian circles over the escalation of fighting in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region.
The Ethiopian Government says it will take control of airports and critical infrastructure in the northern region of Tigray where the offensive against rebel forces has intensified. The statement signals fighting could go on despite calls from the African Union and UN for a ceasefire.
In Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni has made a U-turn, declaring that the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak, Mubende, should now be put under lockdown.
And Kenya's President William Ruto has disbanded an elite police unit which has allegedly been linked to extrajudicial killings in the country in recent years.
