Nigeria鈥檚 president Muhammadu Buhari has announced that old Naira banknotes will be accepted for an extra 60 days, after unrest due to a shortage of new currency. In recent days there have been violent protests at some bank branches, as people struggled to get hold of the new banknotes. The deadline to exchange old cash was supposed to have been last Friday, and the country is poised to hold elections on 25 February.
Plus, the three-day amnesty for people in Kenya鈥檚 Rift Valley region to surrender illegal firearms to the authorities comes to an end. President Ruto deployed the military to the area in response to a rise in banditry.
