Ganelin, Tarasov and Chekasin

Friday 25 February 2005 23:30-1:00 (Radio 3)

Jez Nelson presents a concert recording of legendary Soviet threesome Ganelin, Tarasov and Chekasin - formerly known as the Ganelin Trio. The group first created a stir in the West in the early 80s, following the release of records made from smuggled tapes, and their subsequent appearances in Berlin, Italy and London.

The trio's eclectic influences and style see them shift between bop, folk tunes and almost martial themes, classical structures and completely free elements. Disbanded in 1987, the group recently reformed, with this concert recorded in November 2004 at the London Jazz Festival.
