Space to Think by Lucy McKie

"As a portrait painter, my life is all about observing and listening closely to others. It requires many concentrated hours to create a lively and accurate reflection of another person. Observation and reflection are the reasons why I always listen to Radio 4 when painting. I feel able to stay aware of the great world outside my window, yet at a distance, which allows me space and time to imagine. Surrounded by voices, thoughts and opinions all day Ìýreminds me constantly of the infinite variety and wonder Ìýof humanity, which is ultimately the very heart and soul of my work."
