"Having worked in the Yemen and Africa for many years, often in isolation, my radio was a continual, vital and inspirational voice not only giving me an essential link with England, bu a possessive "comfort blanket". The music on the radio continues to be an esential ingredient, in influencing my work as a painter. As an artist it can be isolating and listening to the radio is a link to the outside world and it enters one's own painting space, the artist's world, to interpret with imagination and inspiration."
