"Radio 4's influence on my art practice has been unconsciously constant. It's been working with me for 22Ìýyears, acting like a kind informative friend holding one hand, while freeing the other to courageously battle with my creativity in scary and uncharted territory. Its companionable presence distracts the critical brain parts, enabling the intuitive, undisturbed artistic expression. Programmes do form a subtle inspiration, though distressing news casts shadows and alters mood in Ìýpaintings. Words may appear as scored graffiti, brightening a textured plain, then later become mysterious under transparent glazes. For me radio is birdsong in no man's land."
