"Being a painter means it is all down to me to produce a piece of work that will hopefully prove to be satisfying to both me and to those who view it. Silence can help in the initial planning stages, but once I have started painting on goes Radio 4. I have tried playing music tapes and CDs but Ìýthere is something about a person's voice on the radio Ìýthat makes me feel as if I have company in the room. I am entertained but not expected to interact and respond, so this does not distract me from my work."
