Deliver the network supply plan for Scotland in the light of the Â鶹Éç's publicly stated aspirations, with a significant proportion to be culturally relevant; and prepare a similar plan for network radio commissions.
We welcomed the commitments made in the Â鶹Éç Executive's plan for television network supply from outside of London, and noted the Director-General’s aspiration that network television deliveries from Scotland should grow to at least its proportion of the UK population. A good start has been made with commissions such as A Question of Genius. However we noted that no specific target had been set for Scotland: members believe that around 9% of network deliveries should be achieved, ahead of the target of 2016 set by the Trust. We agree that cultural relevance should be considered separately from network supply, and look forward to seeing equivalent benefits from a review of radio network supply.
Successfully launch the Â鶹Éç Scotland/GMS Gaelic Digital Service according to the conditions approved by the Trust, achieving an appropriate balance between content for the core audience, learners and the wider audience.
Â鶹Éç Alba was successfully launched in September 2008. Members of the Council believe the new service has greatly enhanced provision for speakers and learners of Gaelic, and offers significant public value for the wider audience in Scotland.
Recommend to the DCMS that, in the interests of audiences, home nations' fixtures in the qualifying stages of European and World Cup football be added to the list of 'Crown Jewels' sporting events.
The Council will submit a recommendation to the Trust in relation to the DCMS review of listed events.
