After the Television Network broadcast the funeral of King George VI, the Kirk O' Shotts transmitter started the new television service in Scotland in 1952. The irony was that the small village surrounding the transmitter didn't even have electricity, they still used oil lamps and outside taps so were unimpressed by these technical advances on their doorstep!
