"My paintings are mainly of imagined characters and environments. I think listening to Radio 4 adds depth to these characters by offering
programmes, factual and fictional, on such a wide range of subjects. The fictional Ìýand historical programmes help to liven and encourage my Ìýimagination while current affairs enable me to keep in touch and reflect on the world beyond the room in which I work. Also, knowing that particular programmes are on at particular times and days gives me the structure and routine that I need as an artist working alone."
