"The first things I do when I go into my studio is to switch on Radio 4. Painting and listening have always been synonymous activities since I drew whilst listening to Children’s Hour, 50 years ago; sometimes inspiring, Ìýsometimes calming, sometimes distracting but always good company. My fantasies fuelled by the breadth of mental images of the world brought into my own creative space. The sound and variety of warm and rich voices like a constant flow of friends encouraging me throughout the day and often, if things are going well, until the hallowed tones of the Shipping Forecast."
