"I was prompted to paint this picture by some lines from my poem 'Winter Dreamers', lines which were based on boyhood memories:
No floodlights spoilt the magic
Of the grey November day
As we stood against the skyline
Dreaming of Wembley in May
The radio is always beside me when I am painting and because I prefer the spoken word as a background I find Radio 4 in particular to be an indispensable companion, as the varied and interesting programmes undoubtedly create a working environment which keeps my mind active and brings out the best in me."
