"Listening to the radio is part of the ritual of starting a painting and working on it. It does not directly inspire the painting but programmes like Start the Week, Book of the Week, In Our Time, PM, Any Questions, From Our Own Correspondent and Woman's Hour inspire me and get me interested in people, topics and books. Furthermore, it Ìýkeeps me in front of the canvas when I think of going off to clean the fridge in despair if discipline totally fails. I mainly listen to RadioÌý4 and RadioÌý3, mostly in the morning and early afternoon. I consider listening to the radio an integral part of my day and week as a painter."
