"Radio is my partner in the job of painting. The sound of ÌýRadioÌý4 impacts on me as I paint; atmospheres swirl out of stories and dramas, engaging my mind in structured thought, while creative, less conscious ideas flow into a thousand small decisions which make a picture. Later, looking at the painting of hand or face, the words I heard Ìýwhile I painted that detail come back to me, because those words went into the picture. And in the loneliness of the studio, radio refreshes me like a visitor when I stop to rest."
