"Radio 4 would have to be my luxury item on a desert Ìýisland. Whilst I can improvise art materials from Nature and handle solitude, I could never replace favourites like Test Match Special. As an artist, Radio 4 is an ideal companion. Its ebb and flow of words and voices is soothing and it never intrudes into my personal world of Ìýcolour, texture, light and images. It never tells me what to paint or where I’ve gone wrong but it does keep me in the Ìýreal world. It’s the perfect partnership – Radio 4 keeps the adult, analytical side of me occupied whilst leaving the Ìýcreative, intuitive side to roam and play like a child with its paints."
