The word moped comes from Sweden. It is made up of mo(tor) + ped(al); early mopeds were like motorised bicycles with pedals. In Finland people born before 1985 can drive a moped without a licence.

The word robot was first introduced by the Czech writer Karel ÄŒapek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots), published in 1920. The play begins in a factory that makes artificial people called robots.
